Algeria produces only gas and petrol: A stereotype to debunk.

Algeria produces great quantities of petrol and gas. It is one of the big producers in the world. To get more and precise information  http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/Algeria/Profile.html

or read this file: Algeria

Because of the incomes of petrol and gas are very high, Algeria based its development and strategies upon this wealth. This has proven to be an unwise strategy that ‘enslaved’ the country and limited its resources.

Algeria is known as a petrol country and that created a false idea about our country. The stereotype is that Algeria produces mainly gas and petrol and the future of the Algerian generation is based on this production

This is totally wrong because Algeria contains a variety of fertile lands in all the regions. Only a very limited part of these lands are exploited.

But these years have known another agricultural policy by the Algerian government. New visions have emerged, new initiatives towards a self-sufficiency production (vegetables – fruits – cereals – meat – milk …).

Billions of Dinars have been granted by the BADR Bank to thousands of farmers who have taken the job to ameliorate the quantity and the quality of their products.

The results were remarkable and satisfactory. Millions of trees have been planted according to the characteristics of each region.

The Project of 1.000.000 olive trees in Bejaia.

This ambitious project aims at revaluing the regions which was known for the quality of olives and olive oil.
